The Older, The Wiser?
There is an outdated notion that a mentor/coach has to be older than you or more senior to you. Because we believe the older or more senior people are more experienced and have stories to share, which will inspire us, show us the right way, and eventually guide us to a successful life/career.
In short, we believe the older, the wiser.
Partially, I agree that older or more senior people are wiser as they spent more years living on this planet and potentially experienced more life stories than us. All stories we experience are invaluable and allow us to learn and grow. As younger or more junior people, we can, for sure, have takeaways and insights from these stories. The takeaways and insights will often help us prepare ourselves for the next challenge or opportunity.
However, don't just look up; look around. Your peers, who are struggling with you, can also be great candidates to be your mentor/coach, especially when you have to find an innovative solution or do something no one has ever done before. How would you expect someone who had no idea/experience of what you are doing to give you brilliant advice/suggestions?
You will often find that it is even pretty hard to explain your ideas, especially brand-new ideas/thoughts, to the older or more senior people. We are living in a fast-changing and very dynamic world. If you want to have someone to share everything with, your peers could be an excellent option for you.
Moreover, yourself is the most trustworthy resource for solving all your problems. Because your heart, your intuitions, and your feelings are, very often, faster than your thoughts. Everyone is complete and good enough to solve their problems in their own ways. Life is not an exam, and therefore, there is no such thing called the correct answer. Other people can only give suggestions from their own experiences. However, we are all unique, and no formula can be applied to everyone in every scenario.
Instead of waiting for someone else to guide us, we should, sometimes, explore and unleash our magics within. You are the one who knows what you want to do the most. You are the one who knows what kind of person you want to be. You are the one who knows what you value the most in your life. You have to make each decision based on your value, purpose, and intuition. No one can teach you these things, which are very much needed to personalize for you.
Don't wait for things to happen TO you; take charge and make things happen FOR you. The best solution is always in you, and you are resourceful and wise enough to solve all problems in your life. If you are constantly asking for permits from outside, you live in other people's lives. Once you start to explore your answers inside of you, you will realize how brilliant and wise you are as a unique person on this planet.
If you feel stuck in finding your answers within, try to talk to your family and your peers or find a coach, who can ask you great questions to trigger you to think/rethink about why you are doing this, what kind of a person you want to be, and how can you get from A to B.
Great mentors, families, friends, and coaches help and support you to be the person you want to be. It is not about age or authority; It is all about you.
